One common question that we are often asked is:

What farming methods does your farmer use to tend his crops, manage pests and ensure good plant development?

I am always quick to point out that the farm is not CERTIFIED organic, but our farmer does employ the organic farming methods outlined in the certification guidelines. Being Amish, they do not have an interest in the government regulating their farm operation, and frankly – the cost of certification is not feasible at this time.

Our farmer uses all natural fertilizer and biologically organic pesticides – only what is approved for use on organic farms. They also practice crop rotation.

So, what is “organic” anyway?

Organic is:

made according to a certain production standard

use of conventional pesticides, insecticides and herbicides is greatly restricted

livestock must be reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones

In most countries, organic produce may not be genetically modified

We’ve been to the farm many times and talked with the farmer and his wife about their commitment to raising good produce for their family and ours. They are committed to growing fresh, safe, clean produce that you can feel comfortable consuming – with or without an official “organic” label on the box.

We’ve adjusted the “late” fee for people joining after April 1st to only $10, down from $15 in previous years.

Even at $450 for 25 weeks of produce, it’s still an incredible bargain!

The forms on the JOIN page have been updated, and so have the credit card buttons on that page.

You can join us for 2013 all the way up until the season starts (week of May 21st)!

You can join after it starts too, but you’ll need to contact me first to discuss the price at that time.
