Storing Food: Green Bags

May 18, 2010 by Charity

In 2008 I bought a box of Debbie Meyer’s Green Bags for $10 at the CVS on Wabash Avenue, and it was one of the best investments I made.

Each week when I would get my produce, I would take the items out of whatever bags or box they came in and put them into my green bags. There were 10 large bags and 10 small bags in my box, and I probably used a little over half of them during the whole season. You can wash them and re-use them several times. I used them with all of my produce except potatoes and stored the items in the fridge, taking them out every day or two to wipe excess moisture off of the inside of the bags. I am no expert, but I really felt that my items lasted longer than using whatever plastic bags I had lying around.

What do you use at your home? Storing your produce properly is essential to making it last as long as possible!
